In a slum, where most people live below the poverty line, orphans struggle the most. Poverty, underdevelopment, mass illiteracy, ignorance, urban backwardness and conservatism cause a majority of orphans in slums to be deprived of their basic right. Various other social problems such as child marriage, trafficking and discrimination leads toward the undermining of orphans right. Many are stuck in a cycle of poverty. Orphans are often treated as second-class citizens in our society. They have no access to contribute to community development and they (girls) are forced to marry at a tender age because of cultural and traditional beliefs. These barbaric attitudes towards Orphaned children MUST STOP.
When we were evangelizing in slum communities of Kabarole district, we realized that so many orphans were going through a lot. Whereby of 10 kids, at least 4 or 6 of them are orphans. We decided to start an organization namely SAVE LIFE UGANDA under our church in Kabarole district that was specifically meant to benefit the orphaned kids in slum communities of Kabarole district.
For the start we had 50 orphans who were taking good care of and training them on how to live with others under one union as far as time went on, our organization started expanding since we were offering free food, clothing and shelter we started getting more and more orphans from the neighboring communities whereby now we have 200 orphans under our care of which it has now become a difficulty for us to handle since the number of orphans has increased. We came up with an idea of expanding our organization since the number of orphans had increased and expenses at large something we have managed to accomplish, Now we have expanded from Western Uganda to Northern Uganda in areas of Kitgum, Soroti, Serere, Karamoja and Adjuman.
